Mixing Business With Travel

One of the great things about having your own home – based business or businesses is that you get to decide how much vacation time you get, and when you can take it. While you may not be able to pay yourself for vacation days that you take, you may still be able to make money while you are on vacation by working a little bit during your trip. The bottom line is, how you approach balancing travel and work is completely up to you. In just a few days, I will be leaving with my family for a road … Continue reading

Getting Rid of Kid’s Stuff

If you’re feeling a little swamped by the idea of sorting your child’s stuff, or your child is suffering mental burnout looking at all of those toys, it’s time to get rid of things! Of course, the best way to get rid of items is to avoid getting them in the first place. But if you’re swamped with stuff, follow these suggestions to help it find a new home where it will be valued. Give things to a friend. The other day, a friend came over to visit and left with a bag of clothes. Only do this after you … Continue reading

Need Extra Cash? Sell Your Wedding Dress!

Weddings are expensive. We can pay upwards of thousands of dollars for our wedding dresses, which we wear once (okay, maybe a few times, if we do bridal pictures and have multiple receptions) and then they hang in our closets or sit in storage. Then financial trials come along, and we wonder how to pay off the new bills. Have you ever considered selling your wedding dress? Other brides are in need of beautiful dresses, and they’d be more than happy to save some money and purchase a gently used gown. You can do this in a number of different … Continue reading

Finding the Time

Is it hard to find the time to exercise? Life gets busy. Maybe you are balancing school and work or busy with your kids and other demands. Whatever it is that you have going on it can really be a challenge to find the time to exercise. One solution I have come up with is changing your daily or weekly routines to add some extra steps or squeeze in a ten minute workout. Doing ten or fifteen minutes here and there can be easier than finding a longer consecutive block of time. Remember that doing something is better than nothing! … Continue reading

Discipling Young Hearts: Raising a Legacy

Homeschooling moms have a unique opportunity to influence their children in every aspect of their lives. Our influence is imprinted on their hearts for the rest of their lives. Each day they are witnesses to our victories, our joys, our failings, and our tears. They watch how we handle stress, sadness, exhaustion, gossip and our spirituality. Every day we add another dimple to the mold with our smiles and our wrath. While all moms have this influence, homeschooling moms are under constant scrutiny and are not as able to “leave it at the office”. I am certainly not saying a … Continue reading

Check Your Email!

We all dream of building up a larger clientele and watching our business expand. Expansion is the only way to increase your income—if you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll always have what you’ve got right now. We hand out business cards, we invite potential clients to visit our offices, we reward referrals—we do what we can to spread the word about our goods or services. But if we aren’t consistently checking our emails, we are shooting ourselves in the foot. I have a hard time keeping my jaw from falling to the floor when I hear someone say that … Continue reading

Interviews with Homeschoolers – Vickie Smith, Part One

Today I’m joined by Vickie Smith, author of The Quiet Doll Queen and president of Ark Essentials Publishing. Vickie, thank you for taking time out to chat with me. How did you arrive at your decision to homeschool? I begged my mom to homeschool me way back before it was popular. I had a very stressful time as a young student. I always finished my work and just sat around class, reading. When I was an office volunteer, I’d get my homework for the day and be done in a short period of time. Public education just seemed so wasteful … Continue reading

Coffee Deals and Free Sample

I’ve posted a lot about how Paul loves his gourmet coffee. I may just be following his lead. Lately we’ve all been burning the candle at both ends and I’ve gotten back into the habit of morning coffee. For that first cup, it doesn’t really matter. As long as it has caffeine, I’m good. But somehow, that three hours old leftover coffee from his pot just isn’t cutting it for the second cup. Yep, I’ve gone over to the dark side – the dark brew, that is. I use a tiny pot that brews only one large cup’s worth, but … Continue reading
