Murph Scores 100 on his Pooch IQ Test

I finally had a chance to administer the two remaining exercises from the Pooch IQ test kit I got. Which means I was finally able to tally Murph’s scores! Scoring All the tests ended with a letter answer to pick from. Kind of a multiple choice thing, but the answer we picked depended on how Murph performed during that exercise. After we took each test we went to the score sheet at the back of the book. All of the exercises attributed different point values to each letter answer. We had to find the exercise number and the letter answer, … Continue reading

100th Day of School Celebration

The 100th day of school has become a well-known celebration among primary classroom teachers. Teaching magazines are full of posters, banners, crowns, glasses, pencils, and novelties that can be purchased for the festivities. I think that the 100th day of school celebration began because of the accomplishment of being able to count to 100. Each day my kindergarten students and I count the days of school. My class’s 100th day of school will be Tuesday, January 30th. On Tuesday, we will count to 100! Some other activities that are planned include a 100th day parade. In this parade all of … Continue reading

Married at Sea: Disney Cruise Weddings

I’ve never written much about a Disney wedding, which is strange because I’m a blogger both for our Disney and our Marriage categories. But if you read my marriage blogs you know that I’m not a fan of big, fancy weddings, and a Disney wedding would certainly be that. Previous Disney bloggers have written a lot on the topic, so I didn’t have anything new to offer. Until now. I just learned that the Disney Cruise line offers wedding and vow renewal packages. I’m always up for writing about a new Disney thing I didn’t know existed, and we’ve never … Continue reading

Super Reads

For some kids, getting a book in their Christmas stocking is about as exciting as receiving underwear, a toothbrush, or an apple. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be this way. Shatter the myth this holiday season by gifting your good guy or gal with the following super reads that pit bad blood against legendary super heroes: Superman Classic: Attack of the Toyman Don’t let the name fool you. Toyman is no Santa Claus. In fact, the diabolical villain is trying to play all of Metropolis. His first move: Unleash an attack by attaching explosives to remote-control cars. Toyman’s evil plan … Continue reading

Special Seasonal Money-Savers

Obama or Romney? The wrong pick could score you a major travel prize. Yes, the wrong pick. JetBlue is giving you a chance to win a free round-trip flight if you incorrectly choose the winner of next month’s presidential election. In one of the cleverest marketing lines ever, JetBlue is giving voting Americans “the chance to make good on threats to leave the country if the other guy wins.” The discount carrier recently announced that it will award 2012 seats, or 1,006 round-trip flights, to customers who fail to correctly call the race between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee … Continue reading

Peanut Butter Recall

Have you recently purchased peanut butter or other nut or nut butter products from Target, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Stop & Shop or Giant Foods? Products sold at these stores, among others are under a recall for tainted food that may contain salmonella. Products such as Trader Joe’s Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter and Archer Farms Peanut Butter are among others that have been linked to salmonella illnesses. They are all made by a company called Sunland Inc. The recall has now expanded from peanut butter to include cashew butters, tahini and blanched and roasted peanut products. The federal Center … Continue reading

Fun Apps For Your Pregnancy

Since there’s an app for almost everything these days, it should come as no surprise that there are plenty of apps out there that have been designed for pregnant women. There are the classic, practical apps like contraction timers and period trackers, but there are a few others out there that are a little more unique. I’ve looked around online and have come up with a few fun apps that you might like to try during your pregnancy. If you or your partner love fantasy sports, you are sure to enjoy Baby Pool. Even if you have never played fantasy … Continue reading

Penny and Her Doll

What’s in a name? If you are my young daughter, not so much. In her world, playing the name game is a piece of cake because what you see is typically what you get. Case in point: Her stuffed dinosaur’s name is Dino; her fuzzy black lab = Blackie; her plastic fish-shaped bath toy, Fishy; and her life-sized plush monkey, you guessed it–Monks. Of course, not all kids are able to slap a moniker on a prized possession as quickly and easily as my kid does. In fact, for some children, the task of naming a beloved toy is serious … Continue reading

What Inspires Your Blog Posts?

Blogging is an enjoyable form of freelance writing work. Whether you are lucky enough to have found a blogging job, you have your own blog just for fun, or both, once you start blogging you must continually come up with new content that keeps your readers coming back for more. Sometimes, it is easy. You go about your day and then when it is time to sit down at your computer and write, you recall something that you saw or did that day which just so happens to be excellent fodder for a blog post. You spend the next ten … Continue reading
