Getting Those Baby Laughs

by tedgar in Baby

Last night I was at a meeting. There was a baby boy there, and he was smiling like anything at the person next to him. I love baby smiles, laughs and giggles, but he sure wasn't smiling at me! Since I'm a sucker for baby laughs, I've become a bit of a ham in seeking them. • Play peek-a-boo.

Becoming Thankful: Acts of Empathy and Thanks That Preschoolers Can Do

by tedgar in Pre School

It can be difficult to teach empathy. Many of the adults I know don't have it down yet - I know I am not the most empathetic person on the block. So when it comes to teaching your preschooler how to be understanding and empathetic, it's good to have some practical applications.

Should You Limit Folic Acid Supplements in Late Pregnancy?

by Kimmama in Pregnancy

It really amazes me how much medical advice and knowledge surrounding pregnancy changes from year to year, even month to month. Just when you think you know what you need for a healthy pregnancy, someone throws a curve call.

Newsflash! All Homeschoolers are Not Conservative

by Andrea Hermitt in Homeschool

Proof that all homeschoolers are not conservative... I watch Hardball with Chris Matthews. While Chris Matthews would not characterize himself as liberal (which I also do not) he is certainly far from conservative.

Hosting Santa's Workshop

by Mary Ann Romans in Frugal

Each year, it seems that we wind up spending too much money on the holidays. One of the ways to cut this expense down while reinforcing the validity of Christmas is to concentrate on gifts that come from the heart, gifts that are made by hand.

When a Parent Mourns

by Miriam Metzinger in Jewish

The esteemed Torah scholar Rashi describes the loss of a child as the ultimate bereavement. It is something for which we have no words, cannot understand even if there were an ultimate Divine purpose that we were able to comprehend.

Do You Use Your TV as a Babysitter?

by Michele Cheplic in Parents

Don't be ashamed if you answered "yes." My BFF in Hawaii pays a TON of money to get Noggin, Nick Jr. and the Disney Channel, which is one of the reasons she unabashedly refers to her satellite provider as Diego, Dora and Kai-Lan's pimp.

My young daughter is beyond thrilled that two local radio stations are already playing Christmas music all.day.long. However, I am adamant that Thanksgiving will not come and go without due celebration.

When It Gets Too Much

by tedgar in Baby

Having a new baby is intense. Especially when it's your first child, there's a need there that you've never experienced before. You're needed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with no end in sight. In the beginning, when you're recovering from birth, you are very tired.

Since I was sixteen years old - and that was a while ago - I have been baking Christmas cookies for our extended family and friends. I bake hundreds of cookies and they all go into the freezer in early December, ready to be parcelled out in cookie baskets.

As I mentioned earlier in the week stretching and balancing exercises are two of the first aspects of fitness to incorporate in to your body shaping and physical fitness routine. Stretching warms your muscles, helps your joints to move more freely, helps to reduce stress and improves your posture.

The Problem of Time

by K_REY_C in Fathers

This will come as no surprise to most of you but time is finite. There aren't eight days in any week (even if The Beatles "imagine" there are) and there are only so many hours in each day. "Okay," you say, "I get it.

Diary of a Cat Care B&B: the Worst Part of the Job

by Aimee Amodio in Pets

It feels like this year has been a rough one for some of our favorite clients at the cats-only boarding facility. Some of our long-time visitors succumbed to chronic health issues or old age. It feels like we've been sending a lot of condolence cards. I don't like it. Not one bit.

Do you view your marriage as a balloon, taking you to new heights? Or do you view it as a ball and chain, dragging you down? Yesterday while talking to my daughter she expressed her reaction to the negativity projected by many about marriage.

by Dale Harcombe in Food

As promised in my Home blog here is the gluten free recipe Lebanese meal. Tabouli, traditionally has burghul or cracked wheat in it, but we make it gluten free. Several members of my family prefer the gluten free version and make it that way even though they don't have a gluten problem.
